Australian Wildlife Services focuses on:

developing wildlife industries and tourism opportunities that support conservation
integrating traditional knowledge and wildlife science into the management of Indigenous and Aboriginal land
management of feral animals and kangaroos to deliver carbon credits under the ‘Carbon Farming Initiative
veterinary wildlife services including animal capture with tranquiliser guns
wildlife population assessment, particularly using the AWS aircraft
wildlife-based ecotourism and wildlife tours
setting of strategic research priorities particularly in natural resource and wildlife management

AWS is led by Dr George Wilson who has more than 40 years experience in wildlife management, aerial survey, tourism, strategic policy analysis, and research program management.

Dr Wilson is an Honorary Professor at the Australian National University, Fenner School of Environment and Society and is a Senior Visiting Fellow at the University of New South Wales, Institute of Environmental Studies. Some projects are conducted in collaboration with these institutions. He was previously Assistant Secretary / General Manager in Federal Government Bureau of Resource Sciences at level of Senior Principal Research Scientist.

AWS has in-house expertise in:

aerial surveys and photography
GIS mapping and analysis, Cybertracker software to track of sightings and populations, and map their location
use of tranquiliser guns and capturing of animals
veterinary diagnostic sciences
vegetation surveys and soil science
fauna surveys including using pitfall traps, bird calls, nocturnal birds, reptile and mammal surveys
data management and strategic analysis
computing and design
report and plan preparation.

AWS current and recent clients include Indigenous communities and agricultural landholders, zoos, research and development corporations, NRM bodies, government and environmental agencies.

We have extensive networks in wildlife science, agriculture, conservation and natural resource management.

AWS has also contributed three chapters in a book on Adaptive Environmental Management published by Springer and CSIRO and Conservation through Sustainable Use. AWS Recent Activities page has posts with more details on these and other activities.
